A-23V; The Viking Bearded Axe is a close copy of one found in Gotland. It's just a bit heavier than the belt axe, with a head weight of about 18 ounces. The cutting edge is about 4 1/4". This style was widely found, and could be used as either a tool or a weapon. When used on a long shaft the beard was handy for hooking the edge of enemy shields. It comes with an 18" handle.

The replacement handle is the "TD" style listed below.

6 Stars for the price! Unique, functional, and ready out of the box!

Getting any kind of tomahawk sent to you with a respectable friction fit is basically unheard of in this price point. Getting one anywhere near being sharp out of the box is also about unheard of for this price point. Both? And a historical design you just don't see anywhere else? Just WOW.

Despite how large it looks due to the long edge, it's also fairly light and balanced due to the design and feels good to swing. The poll on the back is big enough to actually do real work with; just shy of 3/4" wide and 1-1/8" long. The little groove under the poll actually feels good for the web of your hand to sit in when you choke up on the haft for carving.

In comparison, Cold Steel is a very popular value brand that's only a tad cheaper and it's basically a tomahawk "blank" kit that you need to put serious work into making into an actual functioning tomahawk. CRKT hawks? I'm sending the one I just bought back; more money and a joke in comparison to this one. The eye of the CRKT hawk head is too big for the handle it came with!

My only complaints are that I didn't find this place sooner and I wish they had more models that caught my eye the way this one did.
For the money? 6 Stars! Genuinely. And free expedited shipping on orders over $120? I'll tell people who don't even care about tomahawks about this site. Really stellar.

Excellent axe

I recently purchased this axe for my viking reenactment group. The axe itself is very well made and came extremely sharp. It appears to be cast, but the edge was filed. It was mounted securely on the handle. The shipped was extremely fast. I am very pleased with this and will be buying more in the near future.
I made a historical based basic wooden mask for carrying around the Viking camp and renn fairs.

Authentic looks and fun to throw!

I bought a pair of these axes after seeing an SCA event with axe throwing and fell in love with the sport. Not only do they throw well, the look cool on display, and I wouldn’t hesitate defending myself at home with a pair in the hands?
